Washington (AP) According to a news report, pro-Iranian hackers have threatened to make public emails purportedly taken from individuals associated with President Donald Trump. Federal authorities describe this action as part of a deliberate disinformation campaign.

Following American assaults on Iran’s nuclear facilities, the United States has warned of ongoing Iranian cyberattacks and the risks they represent to businesses, services, and economic systems.

The threat to reveal emails pertaining to Trump is nothing more than digital misinformation intended to harm Trump and other government officials, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency stated late Monday.

CISA spokeswoman Marci McCarthy posted on social media, citing a Reuters story, that a hostile foreign opponent is threatening to illegally exploit allegedly stolen and unverified material in an attempt to divert attention, discredit, and divide. We will track down these offenders and bring them to justice.

According to Reuters, it made internet communication with the suspected hackers. They informed the news outlet that it had a sizable collection of emails from Stormy Daniels, the porn star who received a hush money payment that resulted in Trump’s scriminal conviction, other top advisers, and Trump chief of staff Susie Wiles.

Last year, three Iranians were indicted by federal authorities with hacking into Trump’s presidential campaign. Hackers unsuccessfully attempted to leak allegedly Trump-related material to Democrats and media outlets, and they also targeted the Democratic campaigns of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

On the same day that CISA, the FBI, and the National Security Agency released a public alert warning that hacker groups supportive of Tehran may strike U.S. interests despite a shaky ceasefire between Iran and Israel, the threat to expose more hacked emails was published.

Authorities cautioned that the hackers might try to interfere with or take down vital infrastructure systems like transportation, utilities, and commercial centers. According to the agencies, they might also target defense contractors or other US businesses that have connections to Israel.

The alert listed suggestions for strengthening digital defenses, such as using robust password management systems and frequent software updates.

Following American assaults on Iranian nuclear sites, hackers supporting Tehran have targeted American banks, defense contractors, and energy companies, although they haven’t yet caused significant problems.
