Universal Horror Unleashed picks Chicago for 2nd site

Although its first year-round horror attraction isn’t expected to debut in Las Vegas until August, the firm announced Thursday that A Universal Horror Unleashed will open in Chicago.

Universal Orlando shared on social media, “We’re bringing the full force of horror and thrills to a whole new audience in a whole new place.”

Universal Destinations & Experiences, a Comcast NBCUniversal subsidiary with headquarters in Orlando, is the creator of Unleashed.

It will be Universal’s first Midwest location. The business has been looking into new markets. In addition to Las Vegas, Universal is planning a theme park in England and constructing a children’s theme park close to Dallas that is scheduled to open in 2026.

Additionally, Universal’s long-standing horror brand is being extended with the Chicago expansion. With films based on Frankenstein’s monster, Dracula, and other monsters, Universal Studios created the genre of motion pictures in the 1930s. Halloween Horror Nights, an after-hours fright extravaganza that has expanded to encompass Universal Studios Hollywood Park in California as well as theme parks in Singapore and Japan, is getting ready for its 34th edition at Universal Studios Florida.

In the Dark Universe theme park, which debuted in Orlando in May, the monsters roam their own territory.

The Chicago location will be the old Tribune Distribution Center on Chicago Avenue, next to Bally’s Casino.

In a press statement, Page Thompson, president of new initiatives at Universal Destinations & Experiences, stated, “We are thrilled to realize this ambitious idea in Chicago, a city renowned for its dynamic culture.” We appreciate the city’s help in transforming this abandoned location into a distinctive attraction that highlights our narrative prowess and capacity to provide guests with experiences that will blow their minds.

The new Unleashed mazes are anticipated to open in 2027, but the themes have not yet been revealed. There will be four scary mazes at the new facility in Las Vegas.
