Trump orders US nuclear subs repositioned over statements from ex-Russian leader Medvedev

WashingtonPresident Donald Trump sent a warning to Russia on Friday, stating that he is ordering the relocation of two American nuclear submarines in response to the country’s former president, Dmitry Medvedev, making extremely aggressive remarks and threatening war on the internet.

Trump said on his social media platform that he had ordered two nuclear submarines to be placed in the proper areas in response to Medvedev’s extremely provocative remarks, in case these stupid and divisive remarks are more than that.

“Words have a lot of power and can have unexpected consequences. I hope this isn’t one of those times,” the president continued.

Trump’s directive comes at a sensitive time in the Trump administration’s relationship with Moscow, although it was unclear how it would affect the US nuclear submarines, which are regularly on patrol in hotspots throughout the world.

According to Trump, special envoy Steve Witkoff is traveling to Russia to pressure Moscow into agreeing to a truce in its conflict with Ukraine. If no progress is made, he has threatened to impose additional economic sanctions. His 50-day window for action was shortened to 10 days, and it will end next week.

The sub repositioning post followed Trump’s early Thursday morning remark in which he called Medvedev a failing former Russian president and cautioned him to be careful with his language. Hours later, Medvedev wrote back that Russia is correct in every manner and will keep doing things its own way.

Medvedev began the back and forth earlier this week when he said, “Trump is playing the ultimatum game with Russia: 50 days or 10,” adding, “He should remember two things.” 1. Russia is not Iran or Israel. 2. Every new demand is a step closer to war and a threat. With his own nation, not between Russia and Ukraine.

Trump did not provide any details when asked where he was moving the subs on Friday night as he was departing the White House for a weekend at his home in New Jersey.

That was a must. “We simply need to exercise caution,” he remarked. I had to use extreme caution because we didn’t think the threat was justified.

Trump added, “We’re going to protect our people, and I do that on the basis of their safety.” Later on, he mentioned Medvedev while discussing nuclear.

Trump stated that we must be ready for any nuclear discussion. And we’re ready to go.

While Vladimir Putin was prohibited from running for a third consecutive term and then resigned to allow him to do so, Medvedev served as president of Russia from 2008 to 2012.

Since the beginning of the conflict in 2022, Medvedev has been notorious for his provocative and incendiary remarks. He is currently the deputy chairman of Russia’s National Security Council, which Putin chairs. Compared to his presidency, when he was viewed as liberal and progressive, that represents a U-turn.

Medvedev has regularly insulted Western leaders on social media and threatened them with nuclear weapons. According to some analysts, Medvedev’s ostentatious rhetoric is an attempt to curry favor with Putin and Russian military hawks.

Prior to the most recent altercation with Trump, one such instance occurred on July 15, when Trump threatened to impose more taxes on Moscow and revealed plans to provide Ukraine with more weapons through its NATO partners. Trump gave the Kremlin a theatrical ultimatum after Medvedev posted. The entire planet trembled, anticipating the repercussions. Europe, belligerent, was let down. Russia didn’t give a damn.
