On Saturday, hundreds of people attended Orange County’s back-to-school celebration in Bithlo, where organizers gave away free bags to youngsters getting ready for the new academic year.

Families engaged in a variety of activities despite the heat and humidity, such as playing games, interacting with local services, cooling off at a splash pad, and painting their faces while getting their complimentary bags.

Children could also pick up additional school materials, such as calculators and water bottles.

According to Orange County District 5 Commissioner Kelly Martinez Semrad, we have 500 backpacks to distribute to elementary, middle, and high school students. There are a lot of families in need right now, and simply being present in the community and helping them find the resources they require makes it very simple for them to receive the support and aid they require.

In order to accommodate families who arrived the morning of the giveaway and guarantee that students would have materials before the first day of school, organizers allotted an extra 100 bags for each age group, even though pre-registration was recommended.
