Letters: Sen. Scott isn’t fighting for me | DeSantis’ waste | Gazans starving on our watch

Published On:

Rick Scott frequently sends out emails to his people, telling them that he is continually fighting for or against something. He usually just reiterates recent presidential tirades about (insert blank here) before claiming to be fighting, supposedly on our behalf.

His most recent letter regarding interest rates and inflation was another attempt to give the impression that he is on their side. However, it exposed his tendency of openly lying as well as his ignorance of the subject. He complains about budget cuts, but he is totally in favor of a spending plan that would drastically raise our debt and deficit. Although he was unable to recognize his own signature under oath, he appears to believe that his people are a group of fools or perhaps have short memory and are unable to remember his battle to avoid jail time when his company was suspected of defrauding Medicare (and American taxpayers) out of millions of dollars. He may resign to defend me, or even take up Marco Rubio’s Senate practice of simply skipping work.

The fact that Ron DeSantis is using Donald Trump’s DOGE as a weapon to search for waste in Democratic-leaning Orange County strikes me as incredibly ironic.

How can we forget DeSantis flying immigrants to Martha’s Vineyard from Texas (not Florida) with our tax dollars? Or what about when he used state funds to fund his campaign by traveling to other states across the country to give speeches during the presidential primary? Maybe we should remind everyone about his alleged misuse of $10 million in Medicaid funding through his wife’s fictitious charity, the Hope Florida Foundation, ostensibly to help thwart a citizens amendment that he disliked. A complete lack of openness is evident in his most recent fiasco, which involved giving his funders no-bid contracts to construct a detention (concentration) camp in the Everglades. Political theater, fear and contempt for home rule, and a desperate drive to be relevant are all evident in his acts.

Gov. DeSantis, all you have to do is glance in the mirror to see how our taxpayers’ money has been misused and wasted.

Many people find it difficult to forget the images of infants and even young men on cots, nothing more than bones, mere hours away from death. It is heartbreaking to see a small child on his knees scraping together grain that must have escaped from sacks without anybody else noticing. He is by himself, away from Israeli forces shooting at people who haven’t eaten in days and from swarming throngs stomping on each other in desperation.

There is some food nearby, but it takes a while to get there. Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu claim that assisting Palestinians with food means we are endorsing Hamas. That appears to them to be a justification for allowing the region to go hungry. Trump complains that he wasn’t paid for the meals he provided, saying it’s awful and must end soon. Translation: Get the Gazans out of there. (Remember that he is preparing for his East Coast Riviera.) Netanyahu welcomes Trump’s assistance and only wants the battle to continue so he can avoid going to jail.

We don’t think we could experience this. However, it appears that the United States is headed toward a dictatorship, in which we will be at the mercy of a ruler without any way to challenge their decisions.
