FEMA funding are being used by Homeland Security to construct one or two immigration detention facilities in the Everglades. The prisons are being referred to as Alligator Alcatraz. Who said that Republicans aren’t funny? Really. They believe that the surroundings will make escape impossible. However, that applies to both guards and prisoners.
In my opinion, it is a risky concept from an environmental and practical standpoint. First of all, the Everglades should not be used for construction. In a delicate ecology, it should all be state land that is preserved. Second, there will inevitably be inmates who are aware of or have access to information on the necessities for life in the Everglades. Guards must risk their lives to protect a fugitive prisoner from bears, gators, and pythons.
Who is going to manage Alligator Alcatraz? If it’s a rising bureaucrat or unskilled suit, he might not know a lot of things, including which animals could harm him. How is that individual supposed to handle being confined in the middle of a swamp with presumably dangerous criminal inmates if the positions are based on loyalty, devotion, or even punishment?
There is a swamp in the Everglades. Additionally, it is a priceless piece of Florida history. Are the parks going to close? Will habitat be lost for wildlife? Given the agony of destroyed floodplains and historic ground, will some species give up the ghost? The manatees, what about them? The Florida Panther, what about it?
The satirical Onion is the source of this headline as well. Additionally, regrettably, the Miami Herald, Orlando Sentinel, and so on.
It’s true.

Addressing our national debt should be a top priority, according to a letter writer who wrote it and had it published on June 25. (Reducing national debt demands hard choices. However, the author praises the efforts of the Trump administration while mentioning solely the cost side. Regarding costs, I concur that waste and bloat should be removed. To continue the metaphor, waste should be meticulously dealt with a scalpel rather than a chainsaw.
On the income side, trickle-down economics failed both when Trump lowered taxes for the wealthy during his first term and when Ronald Reagan tried it. Our society is still becoming more and more stratified, with the rich increasing richer and the poor getting poorer. Reducing taxes for corporations and the very rich has not trickled down, according to statistics.

The Trump administration’s expenditure of almost $1 billion to drop a few 15-ton bombs and other ordnance on a supposedly nuclear facility beneath an Iranian mountain was largely a complete failure, as we discovered within hours of the incident. You’re getting your facts from the wrong people if you don’t believe that Trump’s tirade full of profanity over Israel’s breach of the truce was caused by that bombing failure.
Trump is probably furious because he fired his own intelligence officers and was duped by Netanyahu into carrying out Israel’s nefarious tasks, which he failed to complete to his complete embarrassment. He lost this battle, and Netanyahu also punched him. The horror! I’m hoping it’s the last time the Israelis take advantage of our government.
