Jason Richardson sees ‘great fit’ for son Jase with Magic

When Jason Richardson and his son Jasein played basketball one-on-one for the last time, the younger Richardson was sixteen years old.

They haven’t played since he outplayed his father on the court.

Jase, who is now 19, has followed in his father’s footsteps by going to the same Big Ten school as the older Richardson and been chosen in the first round of the NBA Draft by the Magic, a team his father played for.

According to Jason Richardson, it’s both strange and insane. I believed he was headed to Alabama. Michigan State was his choice. It’s a really unsettling feeling to be selected by one of the clubs I played for, but it’s still unbelievable that he gets to be a part of a team like this.

Over the course of two seasons (2010–12), Jason Richardson played more than 100 games for Orlando during his 13 years in the league.

He remembers his son, who was about six years old at the time, playing in the indoor children’s playground called Stuff’s Magic Castle, which was housed inside the Amway Center.

“I had a great two years here,” Jason Richardson stated. This place has an incredible fan base. The front desk is fantastic. With the pride of being an Orlando Magic, they have a fantastic atmosphere.

He continued, “I’m just thrilled he gets to experience that.”

Richardson doesn’t get too anxious or enthusiastic when Jase is on the court, despite seeing his son grow from a 4-star recruit out of Columbus High School in Miami to a first-round selection out of Michigan State.

Richardson laughed as he said, “It’s more about analyzing what he’s doing wrong.” He also doesn’t do a lot of bad things. But all I’m trying to do is figure out what he’s seeing and doing. He’s thinking about the game very differently than how I played it, especially given his basketball IQ.

Jase was selected in the draft by Magic president of basketball Jeff Weltman because of his basketball skills.

In a single season with the Spartans, Richardson scored in double digits 23 times, including 14 of the final 15 games after entering the starting lineup. He shot 42% from 3-point range and averaged 16.1 points and 4.6 rebounds in the season’s last 15 games.

Orlando hopes Richardson will eventually assist in creating space from a distance, even though he will have to earn his spot on the court as a rookie on a club that has made consecutive postseason appearances.

According to his father, it’s a perfect fit for him. This is a winning organization, and they have the winning team at the moment. To aid them, they added a few fresh members to the team. Given the way they play defense, offensive sharing, and ball movement, he can immediately fit in. There isn’t a better scenario for him.

What Magic supporters can anticipate when Jase takes the court was revealed by Jason Richardson.

“It’s really special to watch the game the way I see it,” he stated. He won’t impress you with a ton of dribbling or outrageous shots when you watch him play. His passion for the game is the reason. You can see that playing basketball brings him a great deal of delight.

In the end, Jason is simply pleased with Jase’s path.

When your son achieves his objective, it’s a wonderful feeling for a father.
