Hot dog spill shuts down highway in Pennsylvania commuters’ wurst nightmare

Pa. Shrewsbury.Following a collision that momentarily blocked the highly used highway in both directions, a cargo of hot dogs spilled across a Pennsylvania freeway on Friday.

Crews were forced to perform a task they did not enjoy: disposing of the strewn-about tube steaks by wrapping them up.

“That’s all trash once those get off the truck and hit the road, and it’s still fairly warm,” said Brad Dauberman, chief of the Shrewsbury Fire Company.

As morning rush hour was coming to an end, state police reported that a tractor trailer on Interstate 83, a few miles north of the Maryland line, experienced an unidentified technical issue that caused it to collide with a passenger car. The truck’s trailer burst open, spilling its contents as it scraped along a concrete divider.

According to Dauberman, four persons needed medical care for injuries that were deemed non-life-threatening by the police.

The hot dogs were picked up by a front-end loader and placed into a dump truck.

According to Dauberman, his daughter emailed him a picture of a T-shirt with a hot dog theme, and emergency personnel couldn’t help but find the humor in the situation.

The fire chief stated, “I can personally attest to the fact that hot dogs are extremely slick.” I was unaware of that.
