Although Elon Musk has declared that he has established a new political party, it is unclear what actions he has performed in this regard and how the endeavor may impact the next elections.

Musk hasn’t disclosed any further details as of yet. On Monday, representatives for Musk and America PAC, his political action committee, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Even though the CEOs of SpaceX and Tesla are mentioned in numerous recent federal election filings, Musk has called out at least one of them as fraudulent on his social media platform.

Another development in the conflict between Musk and President Donald Trump over the Republican Party’s comprehensive tax cut program, which the tech mogul has referred to as “mad,” is the potential new political party.

In addition to revealing the brittleness of the relationship between two of the nation’s most well-known figures, the rifts between Trump and his former top surrogate and chief cost cutter for the Department of Government Efficiency have also highlighted the possible political repercussions of opposing either man’s priorities. For Musk, whose companies depend on government contracts worth billions of dollars and whose publicly traded company Tesla has suffered a market setback, the dispute might prove especially expensive.

What we know and don’t know about Musk’s new political party is as follows:

Musk declared on X on Saturday that the America Party was founded to restore your freedom. For days, he had hinted at the action, saying that if this ridiculous spending bill passed Congress, he would start his own party. He spent a portion of Sunday soliciting X users’ opinions about the party, which he said he would use to participate in the midterm elections in 2026.

There are numerous freshly created political organizations in the Federal Election Commission database that mention Musk or one of his businesses, but some of the information raises questions about their legitimacy.

Several political parties with names like America Party, DOGE, or X, or Musk named among those connected to the organization, were established in the Federal Election Commission database as of Monday afternoon. These parties were created in the hours following Musk’s Saturday X post.

However, none of them seemed authentic, presenting the organization’s contacts as untraceable Protonmail addresses or email addresses like [email protected]. The chief finance officer of Tesla, Vaibhav Taneja, was mentioned by several as the party’s contact, along with a Texas address for a facility connected to X. A Maryland residence was mentioned by several.

Musk claimed on X Sunday that the application is fraudulent and has been denounced to the FEC as such after a supporter shared screen captures of one of the formation documents.

Musk, the richest man in the world, suggested earlier this year that he could be less involved in electoral politics going forward, but he might try to achieve the exact opposite with a new party. Musk spent at least $250 million backing Trump in the 2024 election.

Although new political parties are sometimes created, they usually have difficulty stealing any substantial support from the Democratic and Republican parties. However, if Musk is prepared to invest large sums of money through a new party or current ones, he may influence the elections that determine control of Congress next year.

Musk promised to sponsor primary candidates for members of Congress who supported the tax cuts measure during the debate. Additionally, he declared that he would back Rep. Thomas Massie, a Republican from Kentucky who Trump has singled out for criticism for rejecting the bill.

Trump praised his enormous achievements with the Republican Party on Sunday, calling Musk’s proposal “ludicrous.”

Later, Trump said on social media that he was heartbroken to see Elon Musk go utterly crazy and turn into a TRAIN WRECK, claiming that the only thing third parties are good at is causing complete chaos and disruption.

Official procedures include establishing a treasurer, bank account, and tax identification number. If subsequent documentation is not filed correctly, the treasurer may be held accountable.

When a new party raises or spends more than a specific amount of money in connection with a federal election, the FEC states that the party must register with the commission in order to participate in federal elections. Political parties are subject to federal campaign financing laws and restrictions. Parties are required to submit reports to the FEC on a regular basis.

Carl Tobias, a professor at the University of Richmond School of Law, claims that the entire procedure is costly and complex because even a federally designated political party must obtain access to ballots state by state.
