Dolphins host TE Noah Fant on visit as front office remains active early in camp

After all, the Miami Dolphins might still be a contender for tight end Noah Fant.

A league source said Monday that Fant is visiting the Dolphins.

Following his July 20 release from the Seattle Seahawks, Fant, 27, a former first-round pick, has allegedly met with the New Orleans Saints and Cincinnati Bengals.

The Dolphins may still be searching for a tight end who can catch passes after trading Jonnu Smith to the Pittsburgh Steelers this offseason. After that, they brought back veteran Pro Bowl tight end Darren Waller from retirement, although he hasn’t yet joined the squad because he began training camp on the injured side. During his one season with Miami, Smith set franchise records for receptions (88), yards (884), and touchdowns (eight) at the position.

The Denver Broncos selected Fant, an Iowa native, with the 20th choice in the 2019 NFL Draft. In 2020 and 2021, he developed into a player that had at least 670 yards and 60+ catches, with seven touchdowns in each season.

As part of the historic trade that brought quarterback Russell Wilson from Seattle to Denver in the 2022 offseason, Fant was traded to the Seahawks.

The Seahawks caused Fant’s output to decline. His biggest yardage production was 500 yards last season, and he had 50 receptions in a season for the first time since 2022. He only had one touchdown in the last two years after recording four in 2022.

The Dolphins feature eighth-year veteran Pharaoh Brown and third-year tight end Julian Hill, who is recognized for his ability to block passes but is frequently questioned for it. In addition to Waller, the Dolphins’ camp roster includes tight ends Tanner Conner, Hayden Rucci, and Jalin Conyers, all of whom were undrafted in previous years. For the past two practices, Conyers has not been accessible.

Despite the start of camp, the Dolphins have already made a number of adjustments for important roster slots. Jack Jones, nickel Mike Hilton, and Cornell Armstrong are the three seasoned cornerbacks they signed in the last week. As proven starters, Jones and Hilton are anticipated to contribute right away.
