Shilo Sanders waived by the Buccaneers, AP source says

Tampa, Florida.Less than 24 hours after being tossed from a preseason game for throwing a punch, Shilo Sanders was dismissed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, an individual with knowledge of the decision told The Associated Press on Sunday.

Since the team hasn’t made its cuts public, the individual talked to the AP under the condition of anonymity.

After playing for his father at Colorado and going undrafted, Sanders, the son of Hall of Fame cornerback Deion Sanders, was fighting for a spot on the team. Earlier in Tampa Bay’s 23-19 loss to Buffalo on Saturday, he was also given a penalty for interfering with a pass.

Punches are not allowed in this league. It is unacceptable. Buccaneers coach Todd Bowles stated, “They’re going to get you every time.” You must learn from that.

Sanders may still be added to the Buccaneers’ practice squad if no other team claims him off waivers.

In the Buccaneers’ preseason opener, Sanders, a hard-hitting and playmaking safety at Colorado, made an excellent debut. However, there was fierce competition for his spot on the Tampa Bay roster.
