Man dies after taking lawn mower onto Sumter County road, being hit by a pickup; FHP says truck driver faces DUI charge

SUMTER COUNTY, FL. The Florida Highway Patrol reports that a 71-year-old Wildwood man was killed by a pickup truck on Saturday when he was riding a lawnmower on County Road 222 in Sumter County. The driver is being charged with DUI.

According to a statement from troopers, the individual was traveling east on C.R. 222 without any lights when the collision happened, west of NE 9th Street, at approximately 8:39 p.m.

According to the statement, a 36-year-old male from Ocala was driving a Dodge Dakota east on C.R. 222 when it passed and struck the lawnmower.

According to troopers, the Wildwood man died from his wounds after being admitted to the hospital.

According to FHP, Larry Romain Hall, the driver of the Dodge, was charged with misdemeanor DUI after reportedly refusing to submit to a breathalyzer test. According to records, Hall has since bonded out of the Sumter County Jail where he was arrested.
