Light Orlando held its third annual “1 Million Meals” packing effort on Saturday in Orange County, Florida.
In order to help prepare one million meals for those experiencing food insecurity in Central Florida, volunteers crowded the Central Florida Fairgrounds, filling rows upon rows of tables with packing supplies.
According to Light Orlando’s program officer Troy Wright, about 2,500 volunteers participated in this year’s event.
“What’s amazing is that so many people are volunteering their time on Saturday to accomplish things for the community,” Wright added. We all have a light to shine, you know. Together, we can have such a significant influence that it is impossible to ignore.

Wright expressed his expectation that the influence will be seen by the volunteers.
In our community in Central Florida, that equates to one million tummies filled with food. Wright stated, “We want them to take that same light, that experience, that feeling they had there today, and take it into the community and find the charities that we’re helping—we’re helping over 65 charities—and find out how you can get involved and do more in the community.”
