OCP eyes playoffs with MCC the only team to beat | 1A District 6

At Orlando Christian Prep, head coach Geurschom Demosthenes never fails to have something planned, and this season is no exception. Demosthenes arrives with a few surprises, even though many might anticipate a weak season for the Warriors.

It will come as no surprise who the Warriors’ primary man is. Akeevin Anderson, a senior running back and defensive back, has been a mainstay for the Warriors since his rookie campaign. Some college recruiters aren’t interested in him since he’s 5’11” and 190 pounds, but Demosthenes says he will be.

Demosthenes stated that Akeevin will receive a scholarship offer from someone because he has matured and developed into a strong leader on our football squad. Soon, the deal will be available. His maturity as a young man excites me greatly.

Powerhouse The First Academy has left, leaving OCP with just Melbourne Central Catholic to contend against in district play this season. Last season, those teams played each other in games. In a thrilling regular-season match, MCC prevailed 55–42.In a playoff rematch in the first round, OCP prevailed 35–34.

After Holy Trinity of Melbourne decided to leave the FHSAA playoff system and join the Sunshine State Athletic Association, the district was halved when TFA was disqualified from playoff participation for breaking the rules.

Zeke Gunn, a standout defensive back and receiver and Marshall recruit, is returning to OCP, and junior quarterback Nico Flores will start at quarterback while teammate quarterback Alec Worden is sidelined due to injury.

Demosthenes remarked, “I think this is the most hungry team we have had in my tenure.” We’re thrilled about the opportunity, and I believe we have a great chance to accomplish certain goals this year.

The fact that our district only has one squad is fantastic. “That coach over there [Willie Tillman] is doing a good job and he’s going to have them prepared, so it’s going to be a slugfest,” the coach continued. It will all depend on how well we perform and how much we desire it.

Delivering Demosthenes’ 100th career win is one of the possible accomplishments. He has 96 going into the season.

In 2014, the Warriors finished 10-1, and in 2021 and 2023, they finished 10-2.
