VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — The sheriff’s office said this week that an Atlanta woman was extradited to Volusia County after a local citizen was defrauded of thousands of dollars.

According to a release from the deputies, the victim in this case was approached by a person posing as a lieutenant in the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, who indicated that the victim had missed jury duty and that a warrant for her arrest was issued as a result.

According to the announcement, the victim complied with instructions to deposit $9,300 into a Bitcoin ATM.

But according to authorities, a warrant was obtained for the arrest of 47-year-old Lakesha Heard when actual detectives linked the money to her account.

The announcement goes on to say that Lakesha is linked to a fraud operation that is operated by a gang at a Georgia state jail. She is not the first and most likely won’t be the final person arrested.

Heard is currently being charged with both grand theft and organized fraud. She is being jailed on a $25,000 bond.
