Following an unlawful U-turn that resulted in the deaths of three people in St. Lucie County, commercial truck driver Harjinder Singh was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement and charged with homicide, according to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.

According to FLHSMV, state troopers were called to a collision involving a minivan and a commercial semi-truck and trailer on Florida’s Turnpike in St. Lucie County on Tuesday. FLHSMV stated that it is clear from the preliminary but ongoing criminal investigation that Singh, the commercial semi-truck driver, attempted to do a U-turn dangerously by using an unapproved site.

According to FLHSMV, three people were killed in the collision involving the minivan. Singh was the subject of a criminal arrest warrant issued by State Troopers for three counts of vehicular murder.

State Troopers concluded during the investigation, with ICE’s help, that Singh had illegally entered the United States and crossed the border into Mexico in 2018, according to FLHSMV. After that, Singh earned a California commercial driver’s license. State Troopers issued an ICE detainer in accordance with the federal power granted to them by ICE through the 287 (g) program.

According to FLHSMV Executive Director Dave Kerner, the defendant’s acts while driving a commercial tractor-trailer are both disturbing and illegal. His carelessness resulted in the deaths of three people, and his loss will always cause anguish to many friends and relatives.

Singh is being held on accusations of state vehicular murder and immigration crimes, according to Kerner. He will be deported after his state charges are resolved.
