OWINGS MILLS, Md. Akshay Bhatia won a car on Saturday after making an ace on the 17th hole of the BMW Championship, increasing his prospects of making it to the Tour Championship the following week.
After starting this event in 29th place, Bhatia is right on the bubble, as the top 30 finishers in the FedEx Cup go on to the Tour Championship. His hole-in-one occurred on a daunting par-3, 227-yard course with water to the right of the green and an elevated tee. There was a bunker to the left of the pin, which was at the front of the green.

Bhatia trailed the leader by 13 strokes after shooting 5-over 75 in the opening round on Thursday. He made a 93-yard sand wedge for an eagle on the par-4 seventh hole, however, and posted a third-round 66 on Saturday. He advanced to even par for the event when his 5-iron on No. 17 rolled into the hole.
Bhatia won the BMW iX M70, which is on display adjacent to the 17th hole, thanks to the ace. Additionally, it means that BMW will donate $125,000 to the Evans Scholars Foundation, which manages a caddie scholarship program.
A new car isn’t actually necessary for me. The 23-year-old Bhatia stated, “I’m pretty happy with what I have.” I believe that I will either give it to my caddie or find a way to donate it to a worthy cause.
