Florida’s Lake County.The Florida Highway Patrol reports that a 17-year-old girl was killed in an early Saturday collision on State Road 44 in DeLand, while four other persons were seriously injured.
According to troopers, a 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck and a 2015 Dodge Charger sedan collided at approximately 4:10 a.m. close to Tomahawk Trail.
An FHP crash report states that the sedan was heading west on S.R. 44 and the pickup truck was traveling east. According to the report, the front right of the pickup truck collided with the front right of the automobile.
Two 17-year-old Leesburg females and another 18-year-old Fruitland Park man were among the three passengers in the Charger, which was being driven by an 18-year-old guy from Fruitland Park, according to troopers. According to the report, three other passengers in the Charger were seriously hurt and sent to the hospital, while the girl who was riding as the front right passenger in the sedan died at the scene of the collision.
According to FHP, the 43-year-old DeLand man who was operating the pickup truck was admitted to the hospital for treatment of severe injuries.
Troopers are currently looking into what happened before the incident.
As of approximately 8:29 a.m., the Florida Department of Transportation’s Florida 511 website stated that all lanes of S.R. 44 remained closed in the vicinity.
