NEW YORK The New York Yankees defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 4-3 on Sunday to salvage the series finale after Ryan McMahon ignited a comeback with a tying, two-run double against Zack Wheeler in a four-run second inning.
The Yankees were denied a run in the third inning when Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto made a sensational leaping grab and tagged Cody Bellinger at the plate for an inning-ending double play.

McMahon, who was acquired from Colorado on Friday, had two singles and threw out Realmuto in the second inning by sliding to his glove side at third.
Devin Williams, Tim Hill, Luke Weaver, and Jonathan Loisiga all pitched one-hit shutout relief; Williams recorded his 16th save in 17 opportunities by striking out two in a perfect ninth. The Yankees relievers came in with the worst ERA in the major leagues since June 28 (7.11).
After five consecutive games with errors, New York snapped a three-game slump.
Crucial moment
Bellinger attempted to score on a 293-foot flyout by Jazz Chisholm Jr. in the third inning, but Phillies center fielder Johan Rojas threw him out. As the runner’s feet slid wide of the plate and Bellinger lunged for it with his left hand, Realmuto leaped and swiped down to tag him on the neck.
Important statistic
For the first time since June 22, New York triumphed without a home run.
