Dolphins’ Minkah Fitzpatrick hires new agent after trade to Miami

GARDENS IN MIAMI Since being traded from the Steelers to the Dolphins, Minkah Fitzpatrick’s life has changed in more ways than just the landscape from Pittsburgh to Miami.

A league source claims that Fitzpatrick, who is reportedly searching for a new contract in Miami, has also appointed seasoned NFL agent Drew Rosenhaus as his new representative.

It was anticipated that Fitzpatrick will try to extend his contract before the 2025 campaign. Joel Segal of WME Sports used to represent him.

With two years left on his current contract, the 28-year-old three-time All-Pro and five-time Pro Bowl pick has $33.1 million in base pay left, including $15.5 million that he is owed this season.

In his quest for a new contract, Fitzpatrick has participated fully in all four of the Dolphins’ training camp practices thus far.

He made a spectacular interception on a deep pass thrown into traffic by Miami backup quarterback Zach Wilson during Saturday’s practice, the first one that was accessible to the public. Even though defenders aren’t tackling him to the ground, his posture has made him stand out in run support as well. Fitzpatrick is a danger to exert pressure on blitzes because of his versatility.

Rosenhaus also represents defensive tackle Zach Sieler, who has been taking part in exercises and is also vying for a contract extension. By negotiating long-term contracts for the two gifted veteran defenders, the Dolphins can temporarily free up salary space.

Fitzpatrick was traded to Pittsburgh for the 2019 rebuilding season, but the move brought him back to the Dolphins.

In 2018, the team selected him in the first round from Alabama.

Fitzpatrick has yet to meet with reporters through Saturday, despite initially having an interview arranged for Tuesday on veteran report day for camp. The team will return to the practice field on Monday after taking Sunday off.

But Fitzpatrick’s teammates don’t think he’s angry about the trade in any way. Cornerback Cornell Armstrong, who was signed Thursday, appears to think so as he was reunited with him after being drafted in the same class by Miami in 2018.

“I know it feels good to be back,” Armstrong said in a text message I sent him after he was traded.
