Driver turns himself in after bicyclist crash in Orange County

The Florida Highway Patrol said that a 45-year-old Orlando cyclist died in a collision in Orange County late Friday evening.

At around 11:50 p.m., a 65-year-old man was driving a Honda Odyssey north on Apopka Vineland Road when he approached Ad Mims Road in the outside lane, according to FHP. The biker was riding straight in the bike lane and heading north on the same route.

According to FHP, the man hit the rider after veering into the bike lane. The van proceeded north on Apopka Vineland Road after the crash. After being taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, the biker was declared deceased.

According to FHP, the individual eventually turned himself in to the Apopka Police Department and indicated he might have struck something nearby. The car was seized as evidence.

As part of their ongoing investigation into this collision, FHP troopers are speaking with the potential driver.
