5 people charged in ‘vicious’ brawl in Cincinnati that sparked safety debate in the city

Columbus, OhioA late-night, violent altercation in downtown Cincinnati over the weekend that included dozens of people and sparked worries about violence in the Ohio metropolis has resulted in five charges.

A video of the altercation from early Saturday shows the gathering mingling until a few people begin punching each other. A onlooker continuously kicked and punched one man after he fell to the ground. After being struck in the face, another woman collapses to the ground and lies still until another woman arrives to assist her. Her mouth is bleeding, as she can see.

In a statement, Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval expressed his indignation at the nasty altercation that took place downtown. This is filthy behavior that is unacceptable in any section of our community, and it is terrifying to see.

Three days after the fight, the city has only disclosed that it had nothing to do with a basketball tournament, a jazz event that drew more than 150,000 visitors, or a Cincinnati Reds game. Only two people had been taken into custody as of Tuesday, despite the fact that five people had been charged in the altercation.

More persons will face charges, according to Police Chief Teresa Theetge, who also issued a warning to anyone who attempted to injure someone by touching them during the incident. Additionally, she implied that some bar owners might be held accountable for overserving patrons during the altercation, which took place at around three in the morning on Saturday.

During the press conference, Theetge seemed defensive, arguing that the fight was taking all the limelight and ruining all the positive things that had happened over the weekend. She also stated that while many recordings were taken by spectators, only one person dialed 911. After the altercation ended, approximately six minutes after the call, police arrived on the site.

“It is unacceptable in this city for us to receive even one phone call regarding this incident,” she said.

The brawl’s footage soon became politicized. Cory Bowman, the half-brother of Vice President JD Vance and a candidate for Cincinnati’s mayoralty, posted about the altercation on social media on Saturday, accusing the city’s administration of fostering an unsafe atmosphere.

He noted in a statement that many people were shocked and incredulous by these pictures. They provide as a sobering reminder to those who live inside our city limits of the persistent crime and lawlessness we have had to put up with this summer.

The U.S. Justice Department’s assistant attorney general for civil rights, Harmeet Dhillon, shared a video on X with the caption, “EVERY American is entitled to the equal protection of our laws.” Justice will be served, and federal law enforcement is on the case.

Despite the paucity of information concerning the incident, the films also became a focal point among conservatives on the internet. Influencers in politics denounced the fight’s media coverage and cited it as an instance of apparent Black-on-white violence.

Why are there no stories? Elon Musk, the billionaire owner of X, posted on social media on Sunday. Musk’s AI chatbot, Grok, added fuel to the fire by asserting in an X post on the same day that the story’s media blackout was taking place.
